This colorful cookbook provides over 80 recipes taken from original European medieval manuscripts. The author updates these meals for the contemporary kitchen to enable the reader to try out the recipes themselves. Included are dishes which would have been eaten at all levels of society. In addition, each section of the book introduces the historical and social context of each recipe. The author has provided a chapter on herbs and everyday cures which were heavily relied upon by people of the period. The book ends with bibliography and manuscript abbreviations listing, a subject index of old recipes, and a general index.
